Accredited Buyer Representative
The ABR® designation is the benchmark of excellence in buyer representation. This coveted designation is awarded by the Real Estate BUYER'S AGENT Council (REBAC), an affiliate of the National Association of REALTORS, to real estate practitioners who meet the specified educational and practical experience criteria. The ABR® designation confirms an agent's mastery of the practice of buyer representation.
In the past, virtually all real estate agents owed fiduciary duties to the seller. Even when working with buyers on a day-to-day basis, agents were obligated by law to get the highest price and best terms for the seller. Today, many consumers prefer working with an agent who is contractually bound to represent their interests as the buyer.
Agents who have earned the ABR designation have demonstrated experience in buyer representation. Two key areas emphasized in ABR training are: how to identify potential problems with a property and how to negotiate the best price on behalf of the buyer.
